“After all the empty time, all the lost moments, there remain these endlessly traversed postcard landscapes: the distance organized between each and everyone.”

Guy Debord, Critique de la Separation, 1961

There is no map for this place. So we make one together.

In a digitized and globalized world, how do we understand our own location?

MAKESHIFT COLLECTIVE is thrilled to present An Other Place: a one-night group show that brings together twenty one emerging artists to contemplate space, place, memory and belonging. The works presented in An Other Place force our geographic, social, and cultural locations to be charted. Memories are redrawn, projected, constructed. The places we have been come to the place we are right now, however briefly. Geographies become superimposed, time and space flattened and stretched. In the place we are, we are always in another place inside, if only in vague glimmers.

The group presents new works installed site specifically, on The Seigel Project Space’s rooftop overlooking the Borinquen Plaza Houses, Bushwick. The show is formed of video, works on paper, photographs, sculpture and performative gestures.

For one evening, this space will become the place where memories breathe.
